Summer in the Cotswolds: Saul Junction Boat Hire

Soak up the Cotswold countryside from the pleasant waterways by hiring a narrowboat for a day’s adventure!

A short drive from our hotel, its convenient location makes it a desirable destination to kickstart your adventures in Stroud.

Pack a picnic and relax in the summer sun as you float down the canal with the day stretched out before you. Drink in hand and lathered in sunscreen, it’s the ultimate way to enjoy the scenic vistas of our beautiful location.

Discover Woodchester Mansion

A magnificent, unfinished, gothic stately home, nestled in a beautiful valley, Woodchester Mansion is an unmissable experience when visiting the Cotswolds.

The building works took place between 1857-67 but, due to never being finished, there’s no fancy furniture or imposing paintings; instead, you can explore the wondrous craftsmanship of how the house was constructed.

Immerse yourself in its rich, vibrant history, marvel at its exquisite architecture, and spend hours getting lost in its meticulous grounds and walking round its vast lakes.

Summer in the Cotswolds: Stratford Park

Stratford Park, which spans an impressive 56 acres, is located just outside the centre of Stroud — making it ideal for a family day out when staying at Stonehouse Court.

Boasting extensive facilities, it’s easy to pack up a picnic and spend a day adventuring in the many exciting areas the park has to offer. These include:

  • Leisure centre;

  • Outdoor pool;

  • Tennis courts;

  • Museum;

  • Play area;

  • Skate park;

  • Lawn bowling green;

  • Miniature railway;

  • Arboretum/woodland;

  • Lake;

  • Bandstand.

And, if all that wasn’t enough, the park also offers free parking! A win-win, we recommend getting there early to beat the rush (and wear the kids out, so that when you get back to the hotel, they’ll fall asleep nice and early, leaving you free to relax!)

Reach Dizzying New Heights at 270 Climbing Park

If you like your holidays to get your adrenaline pumping, then fear not; 270 Climbing Park has just the thing for you!

Gather the troops and head to the high ropes course — one of the biggest and tallest in Europe — and experience spectacular, unrivalled views of the Cotswold hills, Gloucestershire countryside, and beyond!

Boasting 60 challenging obstacles, the highest point reaches a dizzying 18 metres tall (59ft!), pushing your dare-devil personality to its limits!

There are some age/height restrictions, so be sure to check when booking that the whole family can take part. For younger guests, there are some low ropes courses that are suitable!

Slimbridge Wetland Centre

Talks, tours, wildlife watching, aviary theatre, canoe safaris; if you’re looking for fun places to spend summer in the Cotswolds, Slimbridge Wetland Centre is the spot for you!

Spend hours exploring the 300 hectares of wild wetland nature reserve, which boasts spectacular views of the Severn Estuary.

Enjoy nature at its finest, before heading to the play area or nature reserve for little legs to burn off any energy they may have left!
